CCT to Upgrade Telemetry and Data Processing System
for NASA's Expendable Launch Vehicle (ELV) Program
TITUSVILLE, FL. In an early step to improve systems that monitor the performance
of NASA's expendable rockets, Command and Control Technologies Corporation (CCT)
will install an advanced telemetry system to demonstrate the benefits of new
commercial spaceport software. Based on CCT's flagship product, the Command and
Control Toolkit™ (CCTK), the new system will be deployed in NASA's
"Hangar AE" at Cape Canaveral Air Station to provide state-of-the-art
capabilities in telemetry, real-time data processing, launch data analysis, and
data distribution and visualization. Hangar AE houses communications and data
facilities that have been used for virtually every space launch from Florida in
the past 40years.
"Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is serious about cutting the cost of NASA ELV operations," said Rodney Davis, CCT Chief Technology Officer. "This kind of investment in new streamlining technology is absolutely essential to meet the increasing demand for low cost space operations. A revolution in space transportation cost reduction must start firmly on the ground."
NASA expects to receive additional benefits from the compatibility between the new Hangar AE system and the spaceport control system being installed at the Kodiak Launch Complex in Alaska, the world's first all-commercial spaceport. The Kodiak system, also based on the CCTK, can be linked to Hangar AE via the Internet for NASA missions launched from Alaska. This arrangement will cut travel costs and allow more real-time access to mission data independent of geographic location. The first NASA mission planned to launch from Kodiak is the Vegetation Canopy Lidar spacecraft, scheduled for launch on a Lockheed Martin Athena rocket next year.
"Innovative solutions to complex problems is what CCT is all about," said Pete Simons, CCT president. "While much of the industry is still trying to get a handle on the notion of a spaceport, we are developing commercial products to standardize spaceport operations."
Command and Control Technologies Corporation specializes in control systems for launch vehicles, spaceports, and spacecraft. CCT’s signature product, the Command and Control ToolKit™, is based on software technology licensed from NASA.
