Example Automated Test Application - Space Payload

Preparing a space payload for launch typically involves a cycle of integration and checkout from assembly level tests through LRU integration and integrated factory and certification tests. At each step, payload subsystems run through a launch system emulator that validates physical interfaces, spacecraft functionality, and payload flight software. Since individual experiments are developed by different groups with unique test equipment and little standardization, problems are often encountered with data and electrical interfaces prior to launch. The problems can be difficult to diagnose since the cause might be in the test equipment or in the payload itself. With expertise typically distributed across organizations that span the globe, the checkout and troubleshooting process can be costly and time consuming.
