Space Launch Operations Cost Estimator

User Manual
Overview

InSite projects operations costs and flight rates for concept-level space transportation architectures.
Platform Requirements

PC Windows 98, 2000, or XP
MS-Access 2000 or XP Required

Key Operations Drivers Assessed
  • Hazards
  • # of toxic fluids
  • IVHM coverage
  • Systems margin
  • Automation coverage
  • Demonstrated reliability
  • # of active ground system
  • Part count and complexity
  • # of systems with BIT/BITE
  • # of potential leak sources and shorts
Basic Use
  1. Enter design and operations characteristics of the system concept into the intuitive checklist-style input screens (or modify an existing template).
  2. InSite calculates a figure of merit score for each function, element, and cost category as input is entered.
  3. Insite transforms the scores into dollars, workforce size estimates, and cycle times. Results are viewed in a variety of color-coded tables and reports.

Output Reports (click links for examples)

FOM Table Figure of Merit scores for each function, vehicle element, and cost category.
Estimate Summary Lists the cost estimates and cycle time projections on an element-by-element and function-by-function matrix
Side-by-Side Compares two system concepts on the same report.
Cycle Time  Detailed process flow estimate suitable for operation concept analysis (resolution of hours).
Cost Factors Ranked and quantified listing of concept characteristics driving a selected cost.
Input Worksheet Printed worksheet for collecting and reviewing all necessary input values.
