Spaceport InSiteTM

InSite is a comprehensive commercial launch site analysis tool for predicting launch site acquisition costs, recurring operations costs, and flight rates of new launch vehicle concepts very early in the design phase. Developed by a team of engineers from NASA, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and CCT, the model is based on a comprehensive correlation database of characteristics known to heavily impact flight operations.

The NASA/industry/academia development team developed the launch site model together under a joint research agreement called Vision Spaceport. This 5-year research project produced the world's most comprehensive functional model of a launch site ("spaceport"), several space launch operations technology roadmaps, and two generations of operations cost assessment tools. The functional model is defined in a 12-volume document set; each volume describes a major spaceport function, complete with metrics and examples. The roadmaps outline key technology needs in related areas like command and control, space traffic control, spaceport structures, and fluids. The second cost assessment tool software served as the basis for the InSite product, which is based on the 12 major spaceport functions defined in the research. The Vision Spaceport Final Report describes the research objectives, team, process and results.
